GEM-T Model Overview
A Global Education Model for Transformation
A 21st Century Transformational Model for Developing World Class Learners
GEM-T (Global Education Model for Transformation) is a transformation process and set of 21st century education tools that educators use to change the teaching and learning paradigm of their schools and districts. GEM-T is a community of engaged and creative learners where students develop creative, digital and critical thinking skills. These skills are developed through relevant projects, collaboration, research and global communication with peers and experts. Whether a district/school is high-performing or low-performing by any standard of measurement, GEM-T prepares students for the flexibile demands of the 21st century.
McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting company, estimates that moving to a higher performance schooling model could boost the U.S. economy $3 trillion per year or 20% of GDP (www.is.gd/McKinsey). Thus finding and adopting a transformation model that meets the McKinsey criteria should be a top priority for our nation and for every school district.
As McKinsey and others have shown, transformation of schools to a high-performance model is an imperative in America. But this transformation is not being widely realized. Reform fatigue, change resistance and financial hurdles are major obstacles to be overcome in each district, each state and in the U.S. system as a whole. But the biggest impediment to widespread change is the perceived absence of a powerful, customizable model that can reliably transform any school in the U.S. and, ultimately, around the globe.
GEM-T is designed to be that model. This document explains its core nature and how it works.
