KNS Professional Learning Overview
KNS Education Consultants create, customize and deliver K-12 and HiEd professional development using a variety of delivery models to best suit educators’ requirements. Consultants work closely with education leadership to assess instructional needs and plan for the most effective professional development roll-out. All KNS consultants are K-12 educators with at least five years of classroom experience in enhancing instruction with technology.
Goals for Instruction: Each course includes three goals: 1) Model 21st century teaching strategies for teachers to include student-centered and project-based learning; 2) lead teachers to seamlessly integrate technology into all curricula; and 3) improve teacher software application and device skills as they learn to integrate the tools of technology into learning activities.
Seven Unique Reasons to Choose KNS Professional Development
Reason #1 - Assessment and Planning to Maximize Utilization
KNS education consultants work with the clients to assess and determine a plan of action and strategies for meeting the client objectives for faculty professional development including a review of test scores, assessing faculty use of current technology through interviews and observations, interviews with students and review of student work, and interviews with school leadership.
Reason #2 - Application Not Isolation
Applications and technologies Should Not be taught in Isolation!! It is important for faculty to see the application of instruction to curriculum and classroom practice!
Reason #3 - Relevance and Engagement through Course Projects
Project-based learning is key to engaging students for relevant learning experiences. Each KNS course begins with a project for the Faculty to complete by the end of the course. Many of these projects are STEM related and cross-curricular to assist faculty to see application in all classes and particularly for science, technology engineering and math. Others are based on specific core subjects or a combination of these subjects.
Reason #4 - Extensive Range of Courses Reason
KNS provides a full range of professional learning curriculum focused on enhancing instruction with technology. School administrators have over 60 courses to choose from for their faculty and school leaders.
Reason #5 - Courses Led by Highly Qualified Educators
KNS uses seasoned educators to deliver all courses. Over 30 education consultants, each having a minimum of five years of classroom experience, lead these professional development courses throughout North America and Central America. Most education consultants have Master level degrees in education and have served as curriculum and instruction directors, teachers, and curriculum or IT directors.
Reason #6 - Multiple Delivery Methods to Meet Client Requirements
KNS understands the requirement for multiple methods of delivering professional development and even using a "blend" of methods to meet client requirements. With years of experience delivering faculty instruction, KNS resources have developed multiple delivery options including the following:
Onsite KNS instructor-led.
Virtual KNS instructor-led using webinar technology (less expensive, but still interactive).
A "Blended" of onsite and virtual instruction.
Self-paced instruction using KNS provided digital or printed course materials and course files.
Self-paced with mentoring (self-paced with virtual or onsite mentoring for faculty)
The Instruct-the-Educator model provides instruction for lead teachers in the client organization; then provides licensed course materials (books, files) and mentoring for faculty.
Reason #7 - School Leadership Instruction for Faculty Support and Evaluation
School leadership is an important factor for successful use of technology in schools. If school leadership is not knowledgeable about the instruction provided to faculty, there may be a lack of accountability and support for teachers to implement what they have been taught. It is important to create consistency in the use and benefit of technology from one classroom to the next for students, teachers and school leaders to positively affect student achievement. KNS education consultants recommend school leadership attend instruction with their faculty. If administrator attendance is not possible, however, KNS provides school leadership with abbreviated instruction for properly supporting and evaluating faculty in their use of technology. This instruction includes rubrics for evaluating faculty utilization of instructional technology in classroom instruction during observations.
KNS creates and delivers a robust set of courses for teachers and school leaders.
